McCain: "Get our auto industry back on its feet"

John McCain's visited the GM Orion Assembly Plant in Lake Orion on Wednesday. Here are his prepared remarks:
"It's great to be here today with the assembly workers of this GM plant. I'm here to send a message to Washington and Wall Street: We are not going to leave the workers here in Michigan hung out to dry while we give billions in taxpayer dollars to Wall Street. It is time to get our auto industry back on its feet. It's time for a new generation of cars and for loans to build the facilities that will make them.
"These workers here are the best in the world. They are the backbone and foundation of our economy " Please click here to continue reading.

McCain promises prosperity, Detroit News
"John McCain and Sarah Palin pumped up the faithful in Republican country Wednesday night, promising the GOP ticket won't raise taxes, will keep America safe and will restore Detroit to a pre-eminent place as the hub of the global auto industry." "Bethany Scharf, 10, waved her "Palin Rules" sign and cheered as the motorcade of Republican presidential candidate John McCain emerged from behind the gates of the Orion Township General Motors plant Wednesday morning with a police escort.
"I want to see who I think will be the future president," said Bethany, of the Arizona senator, while standing in the back of her father's pickup truck outside the plant."
"The auto industry and Wall Street took center stage in the presidential race Wednesday when Republican John McCain, after touring a suburban Detroit auto plant, declared in his strongest language so far that he will fight for government loans to help the U.S. auto industry retool." ""As a mother I just wanted to hear your response to the people out there who said you can't be a mother and be vice president," Kelly Olson said, holding her 9-week-old son, Gavin. "Well, let's prove them wrong," Palin answered to raucous cheers. After she was elected governor of Alaska, others asked, "How can you be the governor and have a baby in office," Palin recalled, "and I said, the same way every other governor has brought up a family, had a baby in office. Granted, they were men, and maybe that was the difference. But we're going to be able to do it, and I thank you for the question."" Volunteer this Saturday for Super Saturday, September 20th!
